Automation? I don't even have a damn pump!

Automation for me is being 250 lbs and having a 250 lb brew partner who can carry heavy shit when we work together!

I put Brewcommune on my entry. So whoever we pissed off doesn't hate us anymore, I guess! I would mention that the beer was hand-delivered by my brother-in-law to Alesmith, so I suspect it went straight into the fridge and was well taken care of. You know what's funniest about this beer? It was my f...

Looks like I'll be in Salt Lake City on the 18th... Going to have to miss this one.

Once we get it kegged and carbonated, I'll let you know if you want a sample.

I posted the recipe here.

Not counting the rice hulls, it was about 18% rye.

I re-brewed this over the weekend as a 15-gallon batch, but with the Munich removed, and forced to sub Nugget for Chinook and Ahtanum for Cascade. The changes to the recipe bumped it to about 22% rye.

Well, of six beers entered, only one placed. The Rye Pale Ale took second place in category 10, which many of you should be happy to hear, as I brewed 5 gallons of it for SCHF! http://www.quaff.org/AFC2008/AFC_2008_Results.pdf Given the beers I entered, the only other one I had high hopes for was th...

Ended up pushing this off (I would have had to buy ingredients at O'Shea, and I simply can't stomach paying that much). So I'm looking at it again, and I considered the SafBrew WB-06, their dry Wheat beer yeast. It looks like it's a bavarian hefeweizen yeast, which is the style I'm shooting for... H...

Don't worry about the high amount of trub. Just be careful when you're racking to your bottling bucket to leave that behind after fermentation.

Looks like we're just going to ferment this in the kettle. We'll transfer to a sanitized keg (so we can use the counterflow chiller), then clean and sanitize the kettle, to remove trub/etc, and transfer back over. In about 2-3 weeks, I'll need to borrow a corny from someone, as 5 gallons of this bat...

Way too much. I recently brewed a wit with about 1/2 oz of coriander and 2 oz of orange peel (1 oz sweet, 1 oz bitter). The spices are overpowering. I think you'll be okay with 1/2 oz coriander, but may even want to go a little lower than that. Orange peel should definitely be less than an ounce, pr...

My bro-in-law was at B3 today, and he found that they didn't have them. On the bright side, he went on a spending spree, so I'm highly interested in seeing what he has purchased. I suspect it's a 20 gallon kettle (among other things), so that would be nice :-) What about Steinfillers? Or if anyone h...

Wheat Extract (at least the kind B3 sells) is 65% Wheat, 35% Barley.

So that recipe includes barley malt.

Looking for a 20-gallon food-grade fermentation bucket

So, my bro-in-law and I are looking to push out a few 15-gallon batches. The main reason is that we're kegging now, so it's 5 gallons for him, 5 gallons for me, and 5 gallons for the SoCal Homebrew fest :-) I didn't see a 20-gallon fermentation bucket listed at morebeer.com, anyone know if it's sold...

Simple Extract Hefeweizen

Since brewing all-grain, I haven't done a single extract beer, with the exception of helping my brother-in-law through his first brew. But I want to brew a nice simple Hefe for a keg, and throwing a 5 gallon batch of extract brew in amongst my brew day this Saturday seems very simple, and from every...
