Re: Keging and Co2 usage

Welding supply stores usually have CO2 at good prices, and unless they are a welding and gas specialty store (like Mobile Industrial Welding Supply in Anaheim where I go for refills) they are usually exchange only in my experience.

Re: Keging and Co2 usage

The nut connecting the regulator to the tank was a problem for me once. Went through two tanks before I realized that thing didn't have to just be really tight, but crazy tight. Might just be my regulator.

Re: Using Flaked Barley?

I don't know why you couldn't just add it to your specialty grains. It would just add starch. It has to be mashed for conversion. If you're going to use it, just do a small mini-mash. With your specialty grains, add about 2 pounds of 2-row malt. In a bag is fine so you can strain it. Hold it at 154...

Re: Quick Sanitizing

Star San lasts a long time in a bucket. I keep a bucket of it made and just check the pH before using it.

Re: What if it's still bubbling???

Worth noting that if you decide not to wait and bottle before the beer is done fermenting, the consequences could be more than just messing up that batch. It will make some very carbonated beer, which could explode in the bottles. Very dangerous and a big mess.

Re: Charlie Talley - Star San

It is interesting to note that for a period of time this year Star San was not legal for sale in CA. Some of you might have picked up something called Star San HB, which is labeled as a Final Acid Rinse, since Star San was not registered with the CA State EPA. It is supposed to be the same thing as ...

Re: ANOTHER Newbie question

From what I have read (and can remember), Star San gets cloudy from using hard water, and is still supposed to work fine like that but not last as long. Also, I have never had a problem using Star San with a spray bottle, mine has worked fine for over a year. It's just a cheap home depot labeled cle...

Re: all the gunk at the bottom

Whirpooling is very helpful. If you want to keep it very simple, cool the kettle as much as possible this will help settle the trub out to the bottom, then carefully and slowly pick it up and pour it, trying not to shake or stir any of that up. Once you start seeing it in the bottom of the kettle ab...
