Re: OCMU vs Brewcommune REMATCH

BTW, are there scoresheets for our beers?

Looks like they outnumbered our entries 3 to 1, but sounds like there were amazing beers all the way around! Looking forward to the next rematch!

Re: Keezer collar holes

The putty around the wires on the collar sounds like a good safe bet to me! As for drilling the sides of the freezer/fridge, a very risky proposition. However, I've read of a corn starch paste test to find the lines. https://www.homebrewtalk.com/forum/threads/drill-through-chest-freezer-wall.257814/...

Re: American Barleywine

I totally agree with you Jon. It is something I've been struggling with at my new location, which is all that has changed since that profile was pretty accurate in Irvine. 8% used to be a pretty good number for me. Since I brew in my backyard, and now have prevailing coastal winds, it is much tough...

Do we need to signup for this competition ahead of time? When is drop-off deadline?

Thanks,

Re: OCMU vs Brewcommune REMATCH

I'm a little confused here. Are the beers to be judged on how they conform to the BJCP categories? Or how they conform to the Gunwhale ethos? If I were to brew a Kolsch, and it is a great example of the style, it goes to the final round. However, it may not be chosen as BOS by Gunwhale, as it lacks ...

Re: Adjustments to IPA recipe for using Kolsch yeast?

Which Kolsch yeast are you using? I have done 2 hoppy beers after my kolsch beers, and I did not specifically change my recipe. To me, the WLP029 yeast leaves a very soft, round palette. It is not sharp or bitey like some folks like in an IPA. So, I would tend more towards more floral/grassy/citrus ...

Re: Fermenting under pressure

Curtis, Thanks for posting up the pic and description of your sanke keg conversion. That seems to hit most of my needs. I assume the 8" port makes for easy scrub down after fermentation. (My Coors sanke keg did not scrub down as easy as others have had... I've used a camera scope to view the bu...

Re: Need high alcohol spirit

I hope the rubbing alcohol was only to get the 'aroma' of the hops, and nothing else! I'm pretty sure you should be thinking just a pure vodka of some-sort. Its a very clean flavor profile. You could go very cheap, if this is for just some basic taste tests, or something fancier if you plan to enjoy...

Re: Fermenting under pressure

Well, currently I've gone back to plastic buckets. My sanke keg fermentor had issues getting clean, but I generally liked the concept. I just wish I could get a solid view and arm on the krausen buildup. Going back to buckets was an easy step, and I do enjoy splitting my batches in half, with differ...

Fermenting under pressure

Hey all,

I know a few of you have started to ferment under pressure. I'd like to know more about the needed equipment to do this. What pieces and equipment are you using for fermenting under pressure? Any side issues to know about?

Thanks!
