Re: August Club Meeting - Chapman Crafted, August 21st, 7 PM

Truthfully, I welcome the idea that meetings might be on variable days from Tues-Wed-Thurs. Various people in the past have had conflicts on Tuesdays. But then, no matter what day you pick, SOMEONE will have a long-standing conflict. Rotating through those mid-week days may help to not unduly burden...

Re: July Club Meeting. Wednesday, July 17th. GameCraft Bre

Been a while since I've been to a meeting *and* had beer to bring. Is a 1L growler enough, or do I need to fill a 2L growler?

2019 LA County Fair Homebrew Competition

http://competitions.maltosefalcons.com/2019LACF/

Entry registrations and dropoff due by 7/26. Nearest drop-off to OC is Steinfillers.

Note that this is a competition organized by the Maltose Falcons, who have their own style guidelines that aren't perfectly aligned to BJCP.

I should be able to make this one. Thankfully it's Wednesday; couldn't have made Tuesday.

They appear to have boosted it to 110 max, and there are 100 already registered.

So if you're going to get in, do it soon.

Up to 61 entrants. Registration/dropoff deadline is next Saturday, July 6.

Windsor was added as a drop-off point, which I know is more convenient for most of us than going up to Steinfillers.

Re: Adjustments to IPA recipe for using Kolsch yeast?

Thanks guys... Chris, it was WLP029. I've got some Columbus and Centennial in the freezer, so I'm thinking I'll use some of that, but I'm also thinking of picking up some Simcoe. I'm thinking of shooting for a lower-gravity beer in the same sense of character as Pliny and perhaps built off the AHA P...

Adjustments to IPA recipe for using Kolsch yeast?

I just brewed a kolsch, and was planning to re-use the yeast for an IPA as I know several of you (Brent at least) have done in the past. Are there any particular adjustments recommended to a typical IPA recipe based on the different yeast? Or is it neutral enough that I can use the same sort of reci...

When fermenting under pressure, how do you handle dry hopping and racking?

Re: DIY Glycol Chiller?

There are lots of variables in play. While it is true that the AC coils in direct contact are very efficient the refrigerant can also freeze your coolant essentially requiring a glycol mix as plain water will freeze on the coils insulating them from cooling your reservoir or even freezing up the re...

Re: DIY Glycol Chiller?

OK... Educate me... I see these glycol systems built with AC units, and I see that John is using a chest freezer for a glycol tank. I don't really want to build something out of a glycol chiller. Problem is I currently have 4 fridges and I'm running out of freezer space because my kegerator doesn't ...

Re: Fermenting under pressure

OT, but I never worry all that much about the inside of the Sanke. With a normal carboy scrub brush, with PBW and Mark II keg washer, and then with the ability to direct-fire the keg with water in it to sanitize, I figured it's not all that hard to get clean. Hey Curtis (and by extension Derrin)... ...

Re: BJCP 2015 - what would you call this?

At a glance I'd say: 19A. American Amber Ale Thanks. I put it into the Brewcommune / Chapman Crafted competition as an amber, and honestly thought that if I had a chance at BOS, it was going to be this beer. It was really well received at SCHF and tasting it since, I really like it. It scored a 23....
