Very cool. Thanks Lyn.

It would be nice to have this in a spreadsheet.

My Beersmith actually has an entry for Pale Malt, Maris Otter. In my experience looking at grain analyses, the main difference from year to year is going to be in the diastatic power, soluble protien, and free amino nitrogen (FAN). Of course, depending on growing conditions, the size of the grain ke...

I use the IC/whirlpool method. I after I reach my target temp (or a little cooler) I turn my pump off and let the break material settle to the bottom of the kettle. This takes about 30 minutes. I then use an autosiphon to move the wort into my carboy. This allows me to regulate how much break materi...

I have the two roller Crank and Stein. I like it, but I don't know any different. I use my cordless drill. I would like to motorize mine.

As a side note, I just tried to go to the Crank and Stein web site, and nothing came up. The site doesn't exist. What's up with that?

Seems like a waste of time when all the sanctioned comps are already listed here.

I created an ingredients forum and moved this topic to it. These are the types of discussions that really piss me off about losing the forum database. We lost so much great information like this. Great discussion guys.

I brewed two 5 gallon batches on New Year's Day. The first beer was an Extra Pale Ale (all 2 row with a little crystal 10 thrown in) and the second was a new lager recipe - Crown Town Lager. You can see both recipes on my web site. I am planning on brewing an Oktoberfest at the end of the month. Brad

3-year old light ale

A funny thing happened the other night. We went out to dinner with Kesslerbeer and some other members of my wife's family. After dinner, we went to cousin Joe's new house. I raided his fridge to see if there was something other than Bud Light in there. There were two bottles of 2006 Sierra Nevada Ce...

I haven't used dry yeast since January 1, 2005. That was my first batch ever. Dry yeasts have come a long way since then and there is more variety, so I may have to start experimenting with them as well. That one time I did use the dry yeast, I did rehydrate it because that is what the B3 kit instru...

Brad, Brian just shot me an email to let me know he added the discount. Is there a group buy scheduled? We just finished one, so probably not for a while. We just bought over 1600 lbs. of grain on the last group buy. Just to give you an idea of how much you can save when we do the next group buy, I...

Hi Brad, Go to zymurguy.com and register. When you register, let Brian know that you are a Brewcommune club member. I think there is a comment field on the registration page where you can do that. Brian will work with you to get you the best prices. We just did a group buy through him and you may st...
