Re: Bottling Cider

Thanks Chris. If I were to use the Campden tablet method, then that would not allow any carbonation in the bottle. So, is it not recommended to prime with sugar and bottle, even if my gravity has bottomed out?

Bottling Cider

Can anyone share their experiences with bottling cider? I am thoroughly confused from what I've read on HBT forums. It seems to be 50/50 split consensus on whether or not bottle bombs are inevitable. I'd like to give away some bottles for Christmas but do not want to be delivering time bombs. I don'...

Re: Kegging Cider

I read a range of things on various forums. I'll just go with the 30 psi for 30 seconds for 3-4 days and see where we end up. I'm glad to hear there's no real difference than beer. I suppose if I want a lighter carbonation I can just carb it like a porter or stout.

Kegging Cider

I am planning on kegging some cider and then bottling it later. I've read mixed ideas on how to properly carbonate cider. Anyone have any experience with this?

I just got the recent catalog in the mail today and noticed our own Don Barnum is in the catalog showing off his latest system. Nice system Don!

Re: Re-carbonation

Thanks guys. I'll hold off on anything and give them some time. They're indoors, so they've been in the 70's for the past two weeks.

Re: Re-carbonation

Thanks. I hadn't thought about oxidation. If I were to use some dry yeast and rehydrate it, how much water do you think I should use? A quart? Then with an eyedropper just drop 1-3 ML in each bottle? Thanks for the help.

Re-carbonation

I bottled a porter two weeks ago and tried the Muntons tablets for the first time. I used 4 tablets per bottle for medium carbonation. I opened one today and had very little carbonation. Basically a flat beer after the pour. The beer was in a secondary, so perhaps there wasn't enough yeast to fully ...

Re: Pacific Brewers Cup

I'd use that email at the bottom, Comp_Director@BJCP.org. I think Mike would also benefit from hearing constructive feedback about the judges. I received lots of emails to the LBHB group requesting more judges, so indeed they were hurting for more.

Re: Best way to bulk store mead

Sorry to continue the hijack...Bevmo has junk. You will usually find Chaucer's Mead and Bunratty Mead. I'm nearly 100% certain that the Chaucer's is wine fortified with honey, while Bunratty says as much on the bottle. These aren't true meads. Again, I'm going out on a limb here, but if it says it c...

Re: Keggles

I found mine on Craigslist. I paid on average about $40 for each. I could have probably paid less, but I'm not a great haggler and wanted to get started on converting them.
