Can anyone comment on the output difference between the 2 roller and 3 roller designs? If I remember correctly the 3 roller is suppose to be gentler on the husks. You get a slight fixed crush on the first 2 then what ever you adjust to on last roller. This allegedly allows one to run the 3 roller v...

I have the C&S 3 roller mill too. The one thing I would do differently is to get the 1/2" shaft. It's stronger and sheaves (pulleys) are 1/2". Power the mill!

I have one of the Shureco pumps. I have not put it into service. I think it would make a great pump for sparge water and moving chilled wort. I think one could use it in a recirculating IC chiller setup if you waited a few minutes to get rid of the highest heat before starting to recirculate. I'm sk...

OK. Sounds like just toss it in without rehydration. My last batch I tried to experiment with rehydration. I calculated the water wrong and didn't use enough. So I haven't formed an opinion yet. The idea is that the yeast cannot control what they let in through their cell walls so well as they rehy...

If others want to do this technique but are not so excited about a paint stirrer you might consider a lees stirrer. I have seen Pete go to town on some mead and our Blackwine IV with a lees stirrer. They also fit down the neck of a carboy. I have been thinking about using a stirrer on mash-in instea...

Would you think adding and stirring in the dark grains with, say, 15-20 minutes left in the mash might accomplish something similar? If I do this, should I up the quantities to 1# each on the Roast Barley and Chocolate to compensate for the shorter time? I'm one of the cold steepers. I do this espe...
