Saint Arnold Endeavor
What a great IIPA from Huston, TX! Simcoe, Centennial, and Columbus hopped, with a nice balanced malt. The beer doesnt change as it goes down, but its a fantastically balanced IIPA. Probably the best non-west coast IIPA I have ever tried.

Re: Grain Mills
Sounds good guys. The more I did my personal research, i have decided that a 2 roller will do fine. I have heard a lot of good things about the prefixed. You guys seem to like it to, so I think I will go with that. I plan to get a a old jucier base, and set up a pulley system to get the right RPMs. ...

Re: Two infusion CA Common
My only experience with a step mash resulted in a stuck mash. That protein rest just made a milky soup. Most grains these days are highly modified and do not require step mashing (source1,2). With a eff. above 80% on a single mash I would just stick with that, you are getting good grain and a good c...

Grain Mills
I am looking into milling my own grain. I figure my production has ramped up enough that I can justify buying bulk grain. I have started my research, but I wanted to throw the question out to the masses and find out experiences, thoughts, and with different systems and manufacturers. Right now I am ...

Re: TRU Conical Fermenter
Ya the plastic is my only real concern. However the other option I was looking at was to grab some HDPE barrels and just ferment in those. At least this way its conical, and on rollers. Also, not $1000 for a metal one.
I will let you know how it goes. I still need to make some room in the garage.

TRU Conical Fermenter

Anyone use these, or know anything about them? Looking at getting one for when I do a full 15g batch and want to ferment it all together instead of in separate 5g batches.
Thoughts?

Re: Old Wort
I seem to be running a little high at the end lately, around 1.023-1.030. So a 30min boil puts me right in that 1.030-1.040 range.

Re: Old Wort
I put my extra runnings into quart ziplock bags, and then throw them in the freezer. Pull out a quart or 2 and throw them into a pot, boil 30min and i have a nice starter. I am sure it keeps a bit longer than wort in the fridge. I am constantly building starters though, so they dont stay around for ...

Re: Red Ale
Roasted malts, much like hops, tend to fade with age although for different reasons. Hops mellow as the potency of the oils and alpha acids diminishes due to oxidation and other environmental effects. Most of the roasted malts just tend to fall out of solution just as yeast does. I really like usin...

Re: Red Ale
I know some folks like to put 1-2 oz of black patent malt to give a bit of red to their Ambers. I've only tried some Carafa II to get a bit more red.... and avoid any harsh black malt flavors. --LexusChris Ya, last time i threw in a bit of black patent, and it came it came out brown. Figured I woul...
