Some competition results from Pittsburgh...

Post by bwarbiany »

I entered a competition from the TRASH homebrew club when I was in PA on business... Entered my RyePA and Light Belgian Ale...

RyePA - 1st Place in American Pale Ale category*
Light Belgian Ale - 3rd Place in Belgian & French Ale category (entered as 16e - Belgian Specialty)

*They actually broke out the APA and American Amber as their own categories, and combined American Brown with English Brown... So if there were enough APA's to create a whole category, I'm even more happy with my result :-)

APA is a VERY tough category. I've found that true APA's don't score well in the category and that judges tend to favor IPA's entered as APA's and DIPA's entered as IPA's. Either way, there is usually a lot of competition in that category and any placement in that cat is awesome.

Do you have any left for AHA?
Cheers,

I need to check on that. I just re-brewed it with some slight changes to the recipe, and that was the beer I brought to the sanity check a week and a half ago. The original was definitely better, so I'm going to try to find a bottle of the original somewhere for this one...
