Re: AHA Club Only Competition Schedule

Ok, got my scoresheets back today: 31,29,30 for a total of 30. It did better at the batch 50 comp, but still not good enough to win. :)

These judges all commented on too much alcohol flavor, which none of the batch 50 judges noticed. They also all commented on a little bit of astringency which one of the batch 50 judges picked up on (not the Master ranked judge though :P). They said there was little to no belgian character, which is the opposite of what the batch 50 judges said. Oh well, it's interesting to see how different judges react to the same beer. At least they all said they enjoyed it. :happybeer:

The basic comments on all the scoresheets point to one thing that needs to be changed: it needs more body. The yeast I used just chewed through everything and left it very dry. I find that pretty nice, but I can see why it might bother them. More oats should take care of that.

Awesome feedback Brent! Thanks again...

Now let's talk about the March club only entry. Dan, you up for entering that Tripel in the name of the club? Anybody else have a strong ale in the categories identified for consideration?

Cheers!

OK ... it did well at Pac Brewer's Cup but not so well at the Batch 50 comp.

Let me have a look at the comp info and get it ready to go. When is the final decision date?

Thanks BC.

So I'll be looking to get it shipped somewhere around Mid March ... that leaves 6 weeks for you to change your mind!

I must admit that I have a very nice Tripel that is almost a year old, but I am dubious that I have enough left to fill even one bottle let alone two. I swear that keg should have blown ten pints ago, but it keeps on keeping on.

Of course now that I need to fill a couple bottles I am sure it will blow foam the instant I depress the tap handle next...

Anybody else got a conforming beer?

I've got my 2007 and 2008 imperial stouts, but I don't think I want to part with any bottles for comps.

Tim - that is a good idea if it has come around enough to be worthy. How was it at the last sampling?

Boy that's a broad competition for a COC. Usually they are only on category or a small handful at most.

I can vouch for BC's Tripel. I can't recall all the specific flavors as it was back in early January when I tasted it, but I recall it was very nice. Sorry for the lack of a better review.
