Maris Otter going for $2 a pound. Most specialty grains @ $1.70 or so, even American Pale malt is $1.35 a pound...
I just picked up ingredients for 15 gallons, no hops (already have 'em) and dry yeast, and it was $75. Add in the 1 vial of liquid yeast and a starter, and the hops, and it's somewhere in the realm of $90-100 for 15 gallons of beer.
A malt mill will be in the cards in the *VERY* near future. I think my wife is getting me a scale for Christmas. Then it's on to bulk grain.
Anyone have any good hookups for bulk grain purchases? I know there have been group buys in the past, I'd love to get a hold of some if that happens.

go to www.zymurguy.com he's our group buy for this go-around and he's got great prices in bulk and still sells hops for what he paid for them. His name is Brian Cockle and he's just up the road in Garden Grove.
You also get a 10% club discount. Since you're a new member, he probably does not know yet, so maybe Brad can give him your info. and you can get the discount.

Hi Brad,
Go to zymurguy.com and register. When you register, let Brian know that you are a Brewcommune club member. I think there is a comment field on the registration page where you can do that. Brian will work with you to get you the best prices. We just did a group buy through him and you may still be able to get the bulk prices from him.

I bought a scale on eBay that'll weigh up to 30 pounds and I'm very very happy with it. It was only like $25 delivered.bwarbiany wrote: I think my wife is getting me a scale for Christmas. Then it's on to bulk grain.
.
I also have a CrankandStein 3D 3-roller mill and that is the bomb.

We just finished one, so probably not for a while. We just bought over 1600 lbs. of grain on the last group buy. Just to give you an idea of how much you can save when we do the next group buy, I spent .57/lb on 2-row malt this last group buy.bwarbiany wrote:Brad,

Is there a group buy scheduled?

I've got a TIF refrigerant scale coming next week which will weigh up to 110#'s and does 1/10th's and it was $35. I've promised Lars for it, but if he declines, let me know.
Cheers,
Lyn
