Club Tournament Rules and Sign up

Hi Guys,

I mentioned my idea for this previously on the forum and at this months club meeting.

The idea is to have a bracket style tournament between anyone in the club who wants to enter. It will be randomly seeded and each match up will receive a style to brew along the lines of a certain category. When you move on you get a new style for the next match up. The plan is to only have ale styles and each style be under 10%. American Ales would be the first category the styles are pulled from.

The judging will be at the off-month meetings and the judging will be based on which beer is preferred and how close is it to the style guidelines. We can use BrewBrawl to keep track of the scores and see who wins. The plan is to announce the winners and set the styles for the next round that night or the next day. The bracket right now is single elimination, but if we only have a couple of sign ups we can go to double elimination to make the bracket last longer.

I will build a bracket on-line and link to it once its set so people can follow the match-ups. I hope with how it is set up that it gives everyone 2 months worth of time to make a beer for the competition and you can brew as much or as little as you would like, just have enough to share.

Are the non-winners of the 1st round, playing again in round 2 off each other? Not sure if that was explicit or implied, but thought it would be fun if we can keep the brews going!

That is a good idea! I was thinking about doing a sort of “losers” bracket but I hadn’t gotten around to drawing it up. I’ll get started on it and let you guys know when the google doc is updated
