3rd Annual Hangar 24 Homebrew Competition

Post by BrewMasterBrad »

May 12, 2012.

The last couple years, this has been a very well run and fun comp. I will probably be dropping off my entries on May 3 since the deadline is May 6 and I will be at SCHF. If anyone wants me to take in your beers, you can use Corona as your drop off point so you don't have to drive all the way to Redlands.

Hey Hal, I am driving out to Hangar 24 on Thursday night to drop off. That means we need to meet up on Tues. or Weds. What time were you thinking? I teach on those nights, but I am generally done by 8pm. I also usually go to the Oggi's in Corona on Weds. nights, so we can meet there as well. Let me know.

I don't think they have posted the results yet, but I do know how my beers and Hal's beer did. Hal's Scottish 80- won it's category. My Vienna took a third in category 3 and my German Pilsner won category 2 and was first runner-up for best of show.

Congratulations Brad. Runner-up for BOS is awesome!!! I had pretty high hopes for our German Pilsner. It wasn't the same recipe as the one we took to the fest, same yeast but different grains and hops. Pretty good nonetheless. Will they post results on their website or shoot an e-mail?

If I remember correctly, I think there were about 320 entries.

Full results posted here.

I have to admit, I was a little disappointed in my personal results. I entered 7 beers and the only ones that placed were my two lighter lagers. None of my ales placed. This is the second time I have finished as first runner-up in best of show at this comp. Both times they were lagers that lost out to much bigger beers, so I take a certain pride in that. One of these days, I will get that elusive BOS. Can't wait to get my scoresheets to see the comments. If anyone entered a beer, you can pick up your scoresheets now at H24. If you don't pick them up in the next two weeks, they will be mailed out.

Our pilsner won silver. Pretty stoked considering this is our first comp. Again, congratulations Brad.

Heah Brad, are you gonna make it to the meeting on the 22nd? If so, can you pick up our scoresheets and medal/ribbon?
