All Grain in Fountain Valley

Post by EMIdesigns »

Just found your group/forum online and looking forward to being part of an active community.

I wanted to see if anyone is all grain brewing in Fountain Valley and if the city water profile is
good enough to use with just filtering it to remove the chlorine?

Thanks in advance!

Welcome Emile.

I can't think of anyone off-hand in FV, but many in HB and surrounding areas. Unfortunately, for water that doesn't help you since each city has different sources/systems in place.

In HB, I just filter and have very good results for the styles I normally do.

BTW, our next meeting is tomorrow night if you can make it.

Hi Emile
I am near So Coast Plaza and use city water run thru a carbon block filter
Also adjust water based upon test kit results
If you are not currently using software to determine water additions, suggest you search for one
Beer quality was very noticeable after I switch to testing and spreadsheet
PM me if you would like to stop by on a brew day

Thanks guys!
Appreciate the feedback. I might have to get a water test done for the water
in Fountain Valley specifically. I have access to RO water as well and was toying
the idea of having a clean palette and just adding the necessary minerals.

I have the beersmith app, will I need another piece of software specifically for water?

I buy all my ingredients from Windsor, I didn't realize this group met there. I am in OC mashups
as well. I will have to come to one of your meetings sometime, won't be able to make it tonight, but
thanks for the invite! We have a great local homebrew community!

I use RO because I'm not that happy with the water in South OC... I definitely found it to be a major improvement in my beer, and that was after brewing for ~9 years. It was still *that* noticeable...
