LA County Fair entry

Post by Traveling Fred »

Hi Guys,

Got a quick question. I have a Rye Whiskey aged Russian Imperial Stout I would like to submit to the LA County Fair. I added vanilla beans and cacao nibs to this beer during the aging process in the barrel. In looking at the categories, I'm trying to determine if I should enter it as a wood aged beer, whiskey or as an experimental beer due to the additions I made. Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Fred

Hi Fred,,

With the cocao nibs and vanilla, it sounds like a solid 'Specialty beer' to me (2008 BJCP cat 23, 2015 BJCP cat 34C). I'm not a judge, but that's my early read on it. Those additions may take it out of contention with the 'wood beer' group (2015 Cat 33B), but will help in the experimental category.

Good luck!

Congratulations! I hope we can try it at the meeting.
With a name like Captain Drago it sounds like a heavy hitting beer.
