Re: How many carboys do you have?

I have 3 6.5 gallon glass carboys and cringe eveytime I lift one. Considering moving to the Snake keg fermentor setup Derrin sells. All stainless, no glass, 15.5 gallons, no skunking due to light...seems like all positive with no chance of breakage
Now I just need a forklift to move it :happybeer:

Re: Keg Dispensing

I would remove both QD's, vent the pressure, then remove the liquid out post and dip tube. You can do that without disturbing the beer. Run a brush down the dip tube and clean the poppet area of the post. I've had hop material get stuck in the post before. Why use CO2 and push it back into the beer...

Re: wort chiller help on retwisting chiller

Loops that have opened up are no problem provided all loop stay in wort. I would, however, recommend that you solder some small pieces to keep chiller from spreading more. Not sure how to do this? PM me for assistance

I have not used Camden tabs but may do so in future. The only water treatment I use is a carbon block filter.

The suggestions about starting the boil as were adding our wort to the kettle is great too as we want to reduce our brew time to allow for doing a double batch.
Wait to ignite burner until you have at least 2-3 inches of liquid to avoid potentially caramelizing the wort

Re: dissapointed, and shocked, by my immersion chiller

When I was using an IC, tap water would take down to 100-105 with run off going into pool. Then switched to a fountain pump (approx $19 at Loews) attached with some washing machine supply lines. Temp would reach 70 in about 20 min using large chunks of ice made in butter containers. Setup did not lo...

Re: Proper care and feeding of your March pump?

If you are having problems with the QD diameter, take a look at Brewers Hardware. Derrin has full 1/2" ID connectors so you could have a full 1/2" dia all the way to pump.
+1 on taking the pump apart and inspecting...it may be the real issue

Re: Proper care and feeding of your March pump?

Some things to check: What size is pick up tube? If using 3/8 od tubing, it will choke the pump Are you using lots of hops etc? I am using a filter from Brewers Hardwere to filter wort before hitting pumps. After building a new stand, I decided to fabricate a backwash system that will clean plate ch...
