Ditto what Scott says - that's how I store mine.

Re: Simple pale ale...

I've been using it at 68 for a centennial blonde recipe and I'm not happy with the flavor. It seems to have a buttery flavor to it. I may try it down around 62-63 or I may even switch the recipe to S-04 next time.

Re: 1st ever brewers choice homebrew competition

i can talk all day on another thread about how the whole judging and certification and a number score goes against everything i believe about food and drink, and every other passion/art. i personally could couldn't give less of a damn about feedback. opinions are like assholes. everyone's stinks ex...

That looks pretty sweet!

All of those hops ended up being only 4 lbs?

Re: Let there be Hops

Dan,

Here's a nice APA that uses all Cascade. I've done this and really liked it.

(note the recipe is only for 5 gals).

Re: Brew Pets

My kids wanted to call my brewing operation Lil' Dog Brewing because of our dog, but I went with Surf City Brewing instead. Still, she makes a cute mascot.

Re: Filtration

JonW, So, something like this should work for me? http://www.amazon.com/Culligan-RVF-10-Recreational-Vehicle-External/dp/B0010EEVR8 Yes, that would work, but Ebay has them cheaper. I think filter costs are actually less for these than the plate filters and you can easily do 10 gallons on a filter. ...

Re: Filtration

I just did my first filtering a couple of weeks ago. I had an extra 10 inch water filter canister, so I went that route. I used the 5 micron spun filters. They did a decent job, but I have now bought some 1 micron pleated (more surface area) filters off of ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...

Re: Beersmith 2.0

The bug list is pretty long right now. I'm sticking with 1.4 until more of the issues get worked out. Still, it is a good upgrade and well worth the price. I spoke with the author, Brad Smith, at NHC. Nice guy and he is dedicated to this software. He quit his day job and is focused solely on develop...

You need to do your test with distilled water, not tap water.

Re: Gravity sample from sanke fermenter

Test out how far you need to reach in with a dip stick. I think 12" should be fine since the pipette will suction the volume up versus the wine thief where you need to submerge further. I only use my refrac for OG. I always use the hydrometer for FG and then I get to drink the sample as a bonus!

Re: Gravity sample from sanke fermenter

I use this wine thief: http://www.midwestsupplies.com/fermtech-wine-thief.html

It works perfect.
