Re: Proper care and feeding of your March pump?

Just tear the head apart and see what it looks like inside. There's 4 screws to remove the head and then another 4 screws to remove the inner plate. It's simple to tear down and inspect. Check if there is a white teflon washer on the impeller shaft between the impeller and head. If this tore and cam...

Re: RockBottom Takeover/merger

I guess that explains why they took my favorite item off the menu. Rock Bottom had the best fish and chips anywhere - Alder Smoked Salmon Fish & Chips. They were awesome. They dropped them many months ago and I quit going there because of it. It sounds like Gordon Birsche is taking away the auto...

Re: Sparge Ring

No ring needed. Just coil a length of silicone tubing on top of the grain bed. Keep about 2" of water above the grain so it doesn't cause channeling. That's what I do and seems to be the method of growing acceptance.

Re: Avoiding O2 uptake while crash-cooling fermenter

Your CO2 will run empty in no time doing it that way. I just pull the blowoff tube from my jug and put foil over it to keep any bugs or nasties out. I don't worry about any O2 in the beer since the sanke is already filled with CO2 and any O2 being pulled in is going to be at the top of the vessel. S...

Re: Help with mash tun

+1 to the link Brad posted. I had that FB (called an ABT FB) on my keggle mash tun also and never had a stuck sparge. I got it second hand from BrianC who I believe also never had any issues with it.

Re: Help jumping into all grain

Umm, Brad, you do have a RIMS system! It is called direct-fired RIMS.

If you recirculate the mash with a pump and add a heat source, you have a RIMS.

I'm also a fan of the direct-fired RIMS method.

Re: May Club Meeting 5/17/11 7PM (Tuesday)

Been a while since I've been to a meeting, and since for once you guys have managed to come down to south OC, I want to attend. That said, my wife has a class that evening that would make me late... Given that I haven't attended in a meeting in a while, how late do they typically run? If I show up ...

Re: HERMS system

Looks great!

A few questions:
- What kind of controller are you running?
- Are you using pilot lights or electronic ignition?
- Any concern with heat wash next to that water filter?
- Are you doing direct firing on the MLT to heat the strike water and then switch to HERMS for mash temp maintenance?

Re: Mash Tun 'Cooler' w/false bottom .. tubing issues

I like using a stainless dip tube with a compression fitting attached to the bulkhead fitting.

The silicone tubing is soft and flexible by nature. You might want to try a piece of thermoplastic tubing as it is more rigid. I use all thermoplastic on my rig and could give you a piece to try it.

Good to see you again Tim - not only at the BrewCommune meeting, but at the Spring Festival last weekend. Even without a Mopar, you're always welcome to come hang with the car club. :happybeer:

ps: Did you see maltbarley there? He came by for a bit.

Kegerator on CL (not mine) $120

This isn't the prettiest of kegerators, but it is cheap.
Even if you just used it for a fermenter chamber, it is a good deal.
