Re: First brew on my awesome new Brewer's Hardware system
Chris this looks awesome, I'm starting to price out a very similar build and will likely be calling Derrin soon on the hardware. Your sculpture looks very similar to the Brutus 10 - did you build it off of those plans? I'm still trying to figure out how I'll get the stand built as I don't know how t...

Re: O.C. Fair results are in
Just got my OC Fair results on Friday. Only one entry: I did an American Pale Ale featuring Simcoe and Amarillo hops. Scored a 34/31/31. General consensus: too bitter! Was pretty happy as I knew it was out of style before I even entered it (~52 IBUs), but love the recipe and wouldn't dream of changi...

Re: Mini Keg System
One of my friends (Maynerd on these boards) bought a similar setup from another BC member and I was never too impressed with it. We used it a few times to try and carbonate/condition inside the keg and could never get the right level of carbonation. We tried half the normal amount as bottling, and e...

Re: Inspirational Beers
In college, Newcastle and then Guinness were the beers that made we realize that there is a lot more out there than BMC. The beer than finally pushed me into home brewing was Stone's Sublimely Self Righteous Ale. Had it for the first time in 2008 and had an epiphany: "I should learn how to brew...

+1 for the wine thief.
Refractometer is pretty bad for taking FG - there are formulas to correct the reading but it will never be as accurate as a hydrometer. The only time I use my refractometer is for checking SG during the various stages of mashing/sparging.

Man, missed it again! Definitely won't have a batch that I want to enter ready in time. Need to put the date on my calendar for next year.

Re: Sept. Meeting 9/21/10 7PM @ Addison HB Provisions/Fullerton
Had a great time at the meeting last night - just formally paid my dues and joined up. That Denny Conn Rye IPA I brewed is essentially the same malt/hop bill as the recipe posted here however the original recipe calls for Wyeast 1450 ("Denny's Favorite" - originally Brewtek CL-50). I could...

I'm up for supreme. Myself and Maynerd (both new posters) will be there tonight to check it out.
How much homebrew should we bring? I was thinking about bring a bomber each of my latest two batches.

Hi Guys,
I haven't joined the club yet - just joined the forum and have made a couple posts. Would it be OK if I came and checked out the club meeting this month?
Thanks,
Dave

I'm going. It's a little disappointing that the discount code was offered after a lot of people bought tickets. Basically since I was interested enough in the event to buy tickets early I won't be rewarded with a free VIP upgrade.

Re: New taco / beer restaurant to open in Costa Mesa
Piaggio is also Orange County based. The only time I've tried them is at the Bruery. The food is good (not quite as good as Kogi but very good) but they are extremely slow. It took like 20 minutes to get our food when there was no line at all. http://twitter.com/piaggioonwheels They are determinate...
