Re: Vacuum Sealer Food Saver for Hops
You guys shared all my FoodSaver hop bagging secrets....accept one. If you want to be really cheap you can make narrower bags by putting new side seals. I did this some to make smaller bags to hold pre weighed amounts for common recipies.

Re: Makeshift freezer glycol system
I don't think you will have trouble with the pumps and the cold as long you don't freeze them as in accidentally let it get so cold the glycol mixture goes solid. If you plan to chill wort with this you will probably want relatively lots of the chilling liquid as most freezer/fridges have small comp...

Which means one gallon starters for a 10 gallon batch. Just sayin'.Greywolf wrote:Just finished reading Jamil and Chris White's Yeast book a couple of weeks ago
They state that when stepping up your yeast, each step should be larger by no more then a factor of 10.

Re: Home coffee roasters?
I do not yet have a roaster. I saw the one you built and like the design. A friend at work passes home roasted coffee to me as I pass him home made beer. That coffee pretty much went to Mary. Said friend likes lighter roasted coffee for coffee. We have never talked espresso. I expect I'll like light...

Home coffee roasters?
Who in the club is a home coffee roaster? It seemed like Jon and Brian C. have roasted on a brew day.

Pretty much they didn't care and seem to give the discount to anyone identifing themselves with a club. I guess that's just how B3 rolls.dhempy wrote:At one point in time, someone (a club official) from the club was providing them with a list ... but I'm not sure of the status of that.

Re: what went wrong with my stout?
why would you steep? If one is making an extract beer steeping can add charater from the steeped grains. If you are mashing they go in the mash, no point in steeping. Nick, did you mill the grain? Was it well crushed? You might crush your darkest malt in a coffee grinder to increase the extraction.

EDIT: Hmmm for some reason there is an Edit button on this entry but not on my original. Now I'm confused. Help? One has a limited time to edit a message. After sometime the ability to edit goes away making the message permanent. We did this after one frequent poster replaced years of his messages ...

Re: keg kettle trade
I have thought about that some, both a notch or just grinding some material off the kettle. Other ideas were to grind out some of the angle iron on the stand since the angle bar stock is thicker in the corner and the kettle fits the upper dimension of the angle iron. I wish I could squeeze the skirt...

Here is the top and inside of the keg. Very clean. I actually cut the top off with a Dremel and several cutting wheels. For some things there is a first and only time.
