Water/grain ratio - Step mashing in a primitive BIAB!

Hi y'all -

Brewing in a simple BIAB-in-an-Igloo-cooler Saturday. Trying to do a step mash, by adding water to the mash at predetermined temperatures to bring up to the next temperature step. Right now I'm showing an initial protein rest at a water-to-grain ratio of about 0.8. Too thick? Am I ...

Nice!

Tim, should we bring beer to taste, or keep it simple and not do that this time?

Big thanks if you can pick that up.

Cuts back on the harsh crystal taste. I do that for all my recipes now.
Upping the pH to 5.4 - 5.5 should also help in that way, no?

Altbier Recipe?

Does anyone have a solid Altbier recipe that is tried and true? There's one from Jamil Zainasheff showing up on BeerSmith that I'm looking at, but I haven't locked down on anything.

All tips welcomed.

There is some positive news out there on treatments and on other fronts (for example, Google on hydroxychloroquine), that is currently being drowned out by the media torrent of bad news, IMO.

Hey I have a jug of that in my shed. I'll just chug some of it.

Re: Checking in. How's everyone doing? Anyone Brewing?

Thanks for asking!

All good here - I think we're less impacted than some are right now.

Definitely brewing, especially since I got a helpful tip from Curtis on where to get some ingredients I needed.

Got a British Golden Ale kegged, a best bitter (sort of a Boddington's clone, with invert sugar ...
