Re: Float Switches

I'm interested in setting up some float switches on my system too. I don't really want to drill holes in my kettles to take them though, at least not until I've been able to try it out and see how it plays with the automation. I'm like you .. wouldn't want to drill holes until tested ... That said,...

Float Switches

Many of you have probably already seen these or something similar ... but if not here ya go. My thoughts go to maintaining MT levels when fly sparging or keeping an HLT topped up. One would have to address the mounting / adjustment questions but that's what we have Derrin for right? Electrical Float...

Re: Kegerator Repairs

Ok Chris ... no guarantees but I'm willing to try once. Thanks for the kudos ... I've been in appliance hell lately ... about a month ago our range started acting up and I had my friend out and he replaced the ignitors and burners ... and that is why I didn't feel like I was taking advantage of call...

Kegerator Repairs

The other night I discovered that my kegerator wasn't cold. Now I'd been having problems with the Ranco on this unit .. it has flashed an E2 error with every power outage and didn't remember the differential setting (it would always go to a 17 degree differential versus the 1 degree I kept it at) .....

Re: Hop Rhizomes

Here is a snap of the "hop yard" from the other day. I still have to string twine .. a couple of the plants are ready. The two closest trellises are 2' taller this year. The farthest trellis is new this year ... it'll have EKGs and Magnums .. I think the EKGs may actually produce some cone...

Re: Hop Rhizomes

Sun, water, vertical, and loose (not compacted) soil were the order of the day around here last year. I had a couple of "strays" (3 varieties) that came up with a shovel and wound up with Maltose Parrot last Friday ... there might be a few extra parts that should grow with water, sun, and ...

Re: Mash Efficiency

Are you talking about Boil versus Sparge for 60 versus 90 minutes? If you're talking sparge then I'll assume you're doing a fly sparge .. and unfortunately I have limited experience with fly sparging ... BUT I believe that most of what I've read suggests that fly sparging is done until one of two en...

If you decide on buying one, look for the non-glass ISFET type
No need to store in solution, just clean and dry is all that is needed

Re: My new bling --- will look familiar to many of you...

BTW ... Love that CFC on that stand .. how is it working out for you? It's great. I've had it a couple years now, replacing a tube-inside-garden-hose version that I bought from Lars back on '07-08 or so. This chills MUCH more quickly than that one did. This is it at morebeer , but I think I ended u...

Re: My new bling --- will look familiar to many of you...

I have a ThruMometer on my fill-chill-ator and use it _EXACTLY_ as you describe ... I have it in a SS Tee that the wort passes by on exit. BTW ... Love that CFC on that stand .. how is it working out for you? Dan If I had an inline thermometer I could go straight into the fermenter and just use flow...

Re: Ball Valve in Kettle/Do you have a drill?

Before you do anything at least talk with Derrin (Backyard Brewer). Aside from being very knowledgeable and experienced with kettle / pot mods oh yes, and having a very successful brewing hardware business <grin>, he is just one of the many great guys you'll meet in BC. His recommendation on what av...

Re: Howdy!

Welcome to BC ... looking forward to meeting you sometime! Dan Westwood is one of the studios I used to really want to work for. Command & Conquer was the reason I finally managed to get my hands on a PC. Was sad to see it go. Also, I went ahead and said "screw it" and officially joine...
