I'm planning to steep the darker grains as well to keep the astringency down. What is your plan in this area?

Now you know why I didn't want to post .. did you count the Brown Malt I'm thinking of adding?

Dan

BTW This recipe garnered a gold at a state fair a year or two ago ... having read the history of porter made me think of adding the Brown Malt (and thus make it my "own" recipe).

OK ... But this one has a bunch of elements as well. I'm tempted to swap from Brown Malt for some of the M.O. as well just to layer in a little more complexity. The one link downloads the spreadsheet for me (lower link) but the upper one must be accessed with Internet Explorer and must have Web Components Installed.

I regularly use Firefox so I'll just grab the spreadsheet for my personal records.

I'm going to try and brew a porter of some sort for this comp. I have a vanilla porter waiting to be tapped but like Lars' it would be a specialty beer.

Is there anything I need to know about what the two stores have (or more importantly don't have) as far as recipe formulation? You can al...

I've got the 3 roller Crankenstein with a homegrown hopper and a motor from Lyn. Like BC indicated, freshly crushed grain is very nice.

Competition Site

Sometime last year, we had a new registration from a guy promoting a brew competition site ... I cannot for the life of me remember what that site was ... something like brewdaddy?!?

Anyone remember? Seems like he had a plethora of comps listed.

Up next for me is a Czech Pils. Probably in the next week or two (gotta finish the new ferm chamber ... basically insta...
