I make all-grain starter wort then can it in mason jars. I have never tried to boil in the flask, but I have heard some tricks on accomplishing this. You probably want to make a 2 liter or 2 quart starter. I have heard of people that boil their 2 quarts of water in the flask before adding the DME. A...

Any news on the meeting location? We are only two weeks away, we need to get this nailed down.

If you tried to brew now, as soon as you mashed in, your wife would go into labor.

Hey Tim, just out of curiosity, what kind of efficiency are you seeing on your Sabco system? How much are you starting with in your boil kettle to end up with 10 gallons in the fermenter? Does your boil kettle have a diverter plate? Why is the sky blue?

That said I would recommend that you automation guys always leave your system in a configuration such that you could brew "the old fashioned way" in case of a pump failure, power outage, etc. No doubt. On a single tier system, if a pump fails you would have to do some serious improvisatio...

...I think Lars was also planning on donating at least one beer... Planning on brewing an Oatmeal Stout this weekend. I'll make it a 10 gallon batch and donate a keg. Hey Brad, can I get my keg back? No. Just kidding. I will get it cleaned up. It's been sitting in the fridge all this time. There is...

Well said Derrin. Automation does not make things foolproof, nor does it make the skills of the brewer more or less important. Besides, nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool. I guess it comes down to personal preference. I know I wish I had a more automated system on days like yesterd...

I hear you Lars. I struggled with this too. The other side of the coin is, why not automate? Is automation going to make bad beer? The only thing I'm really looking at automating is the HLT so I can set it and forget it. I don't think I am going to have a burner under my mashtun. I really don't see ...

I will use whatever I can get my hands on. The Love controllers are nice and not too expensive, but the ASCO valves are very pricey so I will probably try to come up with a cheaper solution. Lyn has some stuff that I need to take a closer look at to see if there is anything that will work for my set...

Still using the old equipment. The Brutus stand is welded, but I am still assembling the rest of the parts. I am thinking that I want to automate the system just like the one in BYO. If I'm going to do it, I want to do it right.

That's correct.

Okay, so it looks like Dan is the man for the Porter CoC entry. Good luck Dan. We need to nail down a location for the next club meeting. I suggest either The Bruery or Zymurguy's shop. If someone has a lead on a brew pub, chime in now. The date will be March 18 and the time will probably be 7pm. Th...
