Kegerator / Chopping up cornies...
I just converted my kegerator to a two-tap model. I have a large enough tower now that I spaced the taps with enough room to drop in a third, but I need to make sure I can fit three cornies in the fridge section. It's one of the Sanyo black basic kegerator models, and I'm not 100% sure if I can fit ...

Wouldn't seel it to you but trade you for some good beer. I have a few qts I can part with right now. I'm mostly doing the dry yeast thing right now, but if I come across a beer that I want to brew that I can't find a strain of dry that I like, I just might take you up on that. Although, I'm about ...

Saddleback Brewery?
What's the deal with this place? I had never heard of it before tonight, and part of what I see on their web site reminds me quite a bit of "Firehouse Beer Company", a place that I've recently seen advertising a lot of wares on craigslist. They're down in Rancho Santa Margarita. Anyone fam...

Lyn, If you don't like it, don't buy it. I'm not going to drop $15 on a 11 oz bottle, and it's not because it's not an amazing beer, it's because I see no reason to drop that much money on a beer at all. But you know what? At that price it's going to sell. That obviously means that someone thinks it...

Canning.... The answer is canning... I'll make a 4~5 gallon all-grain batch of wort and then can it. To make a starter, I just Star-San a flask, open a jar of starter, pour it in and shake it up, drop in the yeast and put it on a stire plate. Takes me about 3 minutes to make a starter. You do reali...

The first thing -- BE CAREFUL! I have a nice 2nd or 3rd degree burn scar from the time I tried to boil the wort inside the erlenmeyer flask. That stuff can bubble over VERY quickly, due to the design of the flask. I typically boil my starter wort in a normal pan for 10 minutes, then put a (sanitized...

Re: Moving To Kegs
So Craig, have you decided on kegging yet? I may have a keg or two I might need to sell if you are interested. It's not set in stone yet but I need to see how much 'brewery space' i have available in the new place. I may also have an analog Johnson temp controller for sale as well. Let me know if y...

Well if not many of you still do extract, I have that Black IPA fermenting still. Don't know how it will turn out (I think it should be pretty damn good), but it will be a while before it is done. I don't really know much about competitions though. We'll all be MORE than willing to help you evaluat...

WLP002 vs. S-04
I'm going to be brewing 15 gallons of the milk stout in a few weeks, and wanted to get some thoughts on this. I used S-04 the last time around, and I'm not sure it finished quite as sweet as I wanted it to. I've upped my recipe, replacing some of the 60L crystal with 80L, upping the Chocolate malt b...

And now I'm even more upset. I got my score sheets back, and I thought the comments for the milk stout were all wrong. One judge thought it should be an English Brown, another described it as amber and bready. I read that and I knew they were off their rockers. Then I started reading the score sheet...

Awards are being won with everything from a simple kettle / burner to relatively complex / automated systems. So the equipment doesn't seem to be the determining factor .. it is what the brewer is doing with that equipment. Hell, the president of the Maltose Falcons does 5 gallon all-grain batches ...

Welcome... When I moved back to CA from GA last year, I ended up finding this club as my first homebrew club. I had previously learned everything I knew from beeradvocate. So far I've picked up a lot more information, and met a lot of good people. Make sure you find your way to the SCHF this May! Th...
