Re: Just Joined

So I pulled out a sample and took a reading tonight. It looks like 1.015ish, so it sounds right in line. It also taste great and A LOT like anchor steam, which is what it was supposed to be a knock off of. It does taste a little bit too watery, not sure how that happened, but if it stays this way af...

Re: Just Joined

I did have quite a bit of sediment on the walls and bottom of the lid. So I am hopeful it worked out. Sounds like I should be ok on the bottling. I was just concerned because even with a lot of sediment on the walls and a nice cake at the bottom of my primary fermenter there was quite a few floaties...

Re: Just Joined

I personally thought it tasted/smelled ok, but no harm taking a reading to confirm.

Any tips on reducing sediment before bottling?

Re: Just Joined

Thanks, I will take a reading when I get home tonight. We did taste it and it definitely didn't taste super-sweet. In fact it tasted pretty good as far as flavor.

Re: Just Joined

Another question, without having an initial hydrometer reading how can I be sure the ferementation actually occurred?

Re: Just Joined

So brew update. I siphoned into secondary fermentation today and picked up more trub than I thought I would. There is still quite a bit of sediment going into the glass carboy.

Any tips on reducing for the final bottling?

Re: Noob Equipment Questions

Didn't make it on Friday, 91 was too crappy.

Anyone want to meet up on Monday? We are going to stop by Morebeer on our way back into OC.

Re: Noob Equipment Questions

Thanks.

BTW I am going to stop by Morebeer tonight. We are headed out to Havasu and it is right on the way (assuming we take the 91 and get there by 6).

Re: Noob Equipment Questions

Here's another that looks not bad, I am wondering if I should just buy an outdoor propane burner and use my existing pot. I do want to move outdoors as I made a mess of the kitchen last time.

Re: Noob Equipment Questions

So I understand the basic concept of a yeast starter, but maybe someone could explain it in a bit more detail? In fact I was thinking it might be helpful if we stickied some articles on the basics so new visitors to the hobby (like me) can easily find information and don't need to bother all of you....

Re: Noob Equipment Questions

Cool... a lot to reply to here. Regarding the brew pot. The answer unfortunately is I don't know but I will certainly check. The recipe I used called for 3 gallons while making the intial wort and the pot seemed about half full so I am going to guess 5 or 6. Actually I had a question about that too....

Re: Just Joined

Now why would a brew club meet on Marh 17th.....hmmmmm.... At any rate I actually live in Mission V up by the lake. So I am not too far from O'Sheas either. To be honest it was kind of a fluke thing. We had to go down to San Juan and I knew O'Sheas was on the way. Their prices weren't too terrible c...
