Re: Advice on this recipe .. American Pale Ale

Bottled this one last night. Tasting out of the bucket was very good! Some nice maltiness coming through the hops. I'm very optimistic on this one, and looking forward to tasting it again in 4 weeks or so! Color & clarity was real nice too! (FG=1.013)

Re: Exploding mead...

On a more practical note, this is a very dangerous way to go with mead especially since a sparkling mead will generally clock in at 6 ATM and can explode those bottles into little glass sliver grenades. Basically you're playing Russian roulette with capping before fermentation has completed with a ...

Re: Mystry Homebrew

Ok, I'll be the one to ask the million dollar question. How'd it taste? ummm.. well... that's not the point! Where's your sense of ADVENTURE! --LexusChris p.s. turns out it was the band-aid batch I was trying to hide ... too much bleach sanitizer without proper drying.... pouring it out n...

Mystry Homebrew

While cleaning out some stuff around my home office/den this weekend, to make room for all this new brew gear I've been accumulating, I found a case of mystery homebrew! Yippee! Unlabeled. Plain bottles. I'm sure its at least a year or two old.. mabye longer. Have no idea what to expect, bu...

Re: Kegerator / Chopping up cornies...

Thanks for the tip Lars!! You guys are masters at finding stuff on Craig's List! I'm talking with the guy now (he is in Irvine too), and the model is actually SR-4910M. Does anyone know of the difference between the 4910 and 4912? All I can really find is that they are the same dimensions... looks l...

Exploding mead...

Had some *fun* tonight with an older bottle of mead I made last year. I like them sparkling, so I typically bottle them with some fermentation left to go. Let them age at room temp for a day or two, then store them in the fridge until ready. :o Why you laughing? :) Yeah, so this one had a bottlecap ...

Re: Taking the plunge ... American Amber Ale

One thing that made my life easier with the chiller was attaching a valve to the end of the hose that connects to the chiller. That way I can adjust the flow rate and shut off the water right at the chiller. An excellent idea and I picked up a plastic one at Lowes the day before AG#2 brewday! Here ...

Re: Kegerator / Chopping up cornies...

Chris, did you make a move one way or another on this? My wife thinks I'm going nuts on this 'brewing thing' ..with all the projects & weird apparatus.. I have not moved in on this project yet. I spent my budget on a 02 system for my wort and a portable A/C unit with a window vent. (I...

Re: Possible stuck ferment on my Honey Blonde Ale

another thought.. I seem to remember from my tries at brewing meads ... honey raises the OG quickly, and it also raises the final gravity quite a bit. So, if your OG was really at 1.074 .. you may be done. Also, perhaps you had either more honey or malt in the brew, or your final volume is lo...

Re: Possible stuck ferment on my Honey Blonde Ale

Hey Jon, Good to hear that the gravity continues to drop.... that's gotta be a good sign right? :) I just recently downloaded BeerSmith and have been using it for a few weeks now (has 21 day free trial..btw). Did not spend much time on other software, as this one seemed to meet my needs and covers t...

Monitoring Mash Temps

Greets, This weekend, while mashing in my converted orange cooler, I tried out my new instant read digital thermometer. http://www.williamsbrewing.com/images/product_images/thumb_images/T36.JPG When I added my strike water to the grain, stirred and took a reading with my pot clip-on dial thermometer...

Propane Tank management

Hey all, This weekend, I had a small glitch when hooking up my propane tank to my camp stove. I had only used the tank 1 time, for my previous batch, but I wanted to make sure I still had enough fuel for Monday's brewday. I hooked it up, turned it on, lighted it.. no problem. I then turned it off wh...

Re: Advice on this recipe .. American Pale Ale

Brewed this yesterday, on Memorial Day. Ended up with 1.052 SG, and its off to a quick & vigorous fermentation thanks to the yeast starter (another first for me). I have a few other questions regarding equipment/technique from this batch, which I'll post in their proper categories. Thanks for the...
