Advice on this recipe .. American Pale Ale

Greets all! I'm planning to brew again this weekend, AG batch #2 for me. Your comments last time really helped, so I wanted to run my next recipe by everyone for any further tweeks & comments. In the spirit of keeping my first few batches simple, with small variations, while I work out the kinks...

Re: Kegerator / Chopping up cornies...

Updating my progress on this... Turning into a pricey project. :o Digging through old posts here and on homebrewtalk.com, seems that you can find used recon'd ball-lock cornies for $25-$40 each, plus shipping. I found the Sanyo SR-4912M at Fry's for $190. The twin tap tower seems to be a pricey addi...

Re: Taking the plunge ... American Amber Ale

Well, good news. I bottled my American Amber Ale last night, and it looked & smelled just fine. <whew!> Althought I usually sample the beer at the end of bottling, I was rushing due to a small leak in my bottling pail. I did not get a chance to sip and know for sure. BUT, it looked & smelled...

Re: Kegerator / Chopping up cornies...

Great! Thanks for the links & confirmation of the 4912 as a working & 'good' model for a kegarator. I saw in one of the links Jon posted, they removed the door's storage panel to make 'more room'. My question is if the 2 five-gallon kegs + CO2 tank fit without that mod? And, if I go ahead an...

Re: Kegerator / Chopping up cornies...

Dreging up an old post.. 8) I am interested in building a kegerator, and was wondering what models of refrigerators you guys have found work well? I see a lot of the 3.5+ cu.ft. compact refrigerators that have iceboxes and such, and then I found this one which is all refrigerator! no icebox! (SANYO ...

Re: Cooling a small room for fermentation..??..

Wow, no cold room in the garage but she'll let you turn her spare bathroom into a cold room!? Cool! Yeah, I pulled a Charles Deetz when I moved into this house.... "..mabye this house could use a little remodeling... um.. but why don't you just leave this room alone, okay?" I put a stake ...

Cooling a small room for fermentation..??..

While I have been admiring the posts & pictures of your cold boxes, cold rooms, etc., I'm realizing that I need to have a better control over my fermentation temps! I've kinda ruled out the extra fridge idea... just don't have room for it. And I know the wife won't go for building an insulated r...

Re: Taking the plunge ... American Amber Ale

Yes, some great ideas! I could have just left it in the pot while I transfered! Doh! I was worried about leaving the exit hose unsupervised whilest running back to the spigot to turn it off... there was a lot of pressure coming out and it might whip about! I also like the idea of putting a hose cont...

Re: Taking the plunge ... American Amber Ale

Ok, so I did have a lot of fun on my first AG brewday, and was suprised by a few things. 1) The all-grain aspects, mashing, full boil, proper sparging, etc. was pretty easy! I had rehersed those in my mind for a whole week. That went just as planned 2) After 15 years of extract brewing in the kitche...

Re: Taking the plunge ... American Amber Ale

There was excitement. There was adventure. There was tragedy. There was frustration. So went my first AG brewday. I gotta get the bad news out of the way first. I had gotten through first 5 hours and was having a great time, when I made a tragic mistake. Whilst taking my immersion wort chill...
