Re: New sparge ring
Eric - can you explain the strainer aparatus you use? I take a long twist tie and tie it to something to cross the mashtun. Then I dangle (I can see the jokes already) my vegetable steamer from the twist tie. I'll try to post a picture. Brew Captain use my method (which I got from him) AND tin foil...

Re: IE Brew Co competition
[quote="bwarbiany"] RyePA: Scored 29 from all three judges (incl. Brad N). All seemed to find it estery, some I think suggested it was too apparent. I thought that odd as I fermented US-05 down in the 64 deg range. Other comment (that I think hurt my score a bit) was that it finished a bit...

Re: New sparge ring
Cool rig. I have been thinking about making some kind of sparge arm. The vegetable steamer I'm using now seems to work OK, so I'm satisficing at least for a while longer.

Re: simple Dunkelweizen
I had a dunkelweizen take 1 month in the bottle for the banana to come through. It lasted about 2-2.5 months and then the banana faded. The clove stayed throughout. It was wlp300 yeast.

Sweet !!!
That looks like a simple, effective, inexpensive mash tun.
Brad's advice is solid. My first two batches were terrible and I had my process all wrong. It takes a few batches to get it right.
The 2000 mL erlynmeyer flask is the way to go.
