March club meeting and Club Only Comp info.

Post by spkrtoy »

Scheduled date is March 18th (3rd Tue.)

Does anyone have any ideas for the venue?

The C.O.C. deadline for Porters is 3-12-08, and it's in Indiana so we'll need at least a week to ship it, so we'll need to have a pre-meeting judging during the first week of March for our club entry.
Cheers,
Lyn

I think Brent should choose our porter entry.

If anyone will have a porter ready for this comp, step up and be counted.

Hey, like I told the guys at the BJCP class, I'm more than happy to give you the opportunity to change my mind on porters. I won't turn down free beer, even if it does taste a bit like dirt. :)

I do think it would be a good excersize for those of us in the BJCP class to fill out scoresheets for the entries we have to help select the one to go.

So, when do we want to make the "cut-off" date?

I'd say March 3rd, which will give us a week for shipping.

Perhaps we can have these ready a week from Saturday for the brew day?

Is that too soon for you Dan?

It'd be pretty tight and the beer would be pretty green ... no chance to bottle condition ... plus I've got the added problem of getting it there.

I can make 3/3 no problems ... perhaps even with a bottle conditioned one. Let me ponder my options .. I think I'm about ready to rack to secondary ... will probably do that later tonight. I'll sneak a taste and see what gives.

Okay, so it looks like Dan is the man for the Porter CoC entry. Good luck Dan.

We need to nail down a location for the next club meeting. I suggest either The Bruery or Zymurguy's shop. If someone has a lead on a brew pub, chime in now. The date will be March 18 and the time will probably be 7pm. The major topics will be regarding plans for the SCHF - bar design, shirts, hats, etc. So far, it looks like we have at least 50 gallons of beer committed to the cause. We need to double that. I am planning a couple more beers to bring and I think Lars was also planning on donating at least one beer and I don't know what Patrick and Tyler are bringing yet. We should be in pretty good shape there.

I have about 4.5 gallons of a Cali Common I'd be willing to donate to the fest if you guys come short. It's sitting over at Lyn's right now and as long as we (Lyn) doesn't sample it too often, there should plenty left over.

I know Hayley, the brewer for Rock Bottom in Long Beach would love to have us over for a meeting. Pat know's her very well so if that'll work for all of us I'd love to go there for the food!

Thanks Brad ... I'll probably miss the meeting but if a phone conference was necessary I could be available.

Hayley at Rock Bottom said she was excited about hosting a meeting-- I'll call her tomorrow and see if she's still excited. Tustin Brewing Co. would be another option. Tyler's friend from BJ's, Andy, just took over there and should be stepping up the quality of the beer there. We wouldn't have a problem bringing in homebrew.
