Pro-Am Brew ... hmmm....

Post by lexuschris »

Heyas,

So, I found myself at a fundraiser for the Irvine Public School Foundation (IPSF) a few weeks ago. A nice affair, with cocktails & dinner inside the corporate Kia headquarters off the 5 freeway in Irvine. Turns out they had an item called 'Brewer for the Day", courtesy of Back Street Brewery.

Yeah, I won that. My wife made sure that I won that. :)

Originally, it was supposed to be a chance for someone to learn about brewing ingredients & (with the brewer) pick a beer style. Brew it together, and take home 2 cases while the brewery serves the beer at the pub.

It sounds like they are agreeable to me coming in with some recipe ideas, and I'm kinda at a loss for what I style & recipe & should home in on. They already server a Blonde, Red, Pale, IPA, Stout & Hefeweizen.

I'm sure tempted to ask for an Old Ale, or Scottish 70? Perhaps a dopplebock? Or hey, a vienna lager? or Calif. common?

Not sure what my limitations might be, but thought I'd solicit some ideas form everyone. :) If we time it right, perhaps it will be ready to serve over the holidays. I might try to angle a Holiday party for the club at one of their sites too...

Let me know what you think...

Congratulations on winning "Brewer for the Day"
I like the Holiday Ale idea, like a Holiday Porter with the holiday spices or a Chocolate Porter.
The club party at their place sounds like a great idea. Hope it comes together!

Congratz Chris! I second the holiday brew idea, although I'd probably lean towards a SN Celebration Ale type clone. Any idea how big a batch they are considering?

+1

Congrats, that's a very cool prize. Brewing in a commercial brewery is both the same and different from what we do at home, it should be a great experience!

All the beers you listed are ales. Are they set up to brew a lager? That might impact your choice significantly...

My vote is for a dopplebock.

How about a triple hops brewed light American lager?

Just kidding. I like the Celebration clone idea myself.
