Here's our "beast"... Frankly he's not far removed from a cat, as he hates going for walks or car rides, and spends all day sleeping.

My dogs (Vizslas) don't really drink beer ... they do like to keep track of things while I'm brewing. And when I'm not brewing, they keep track of other things ... you've heard of treeing the fox? Well, on Wednesday, my dogs "piped" a bunny ... Ruby was just going nuts over this one ... (my 12 year old son took this pic and the autofocus did a great job with the top of the pipe ...)

Image

I got a shovel and dug the pipe up and out ... Bugs hopped cheerfully away into my orchard. I actually think that the rabbit crawled in there and traveled quite a ways to where it finally got stuck ... there isn't enough room in the pipe for it to turn around so it was a one way trip. When it found this one spot of daylight, it got up into the down pipe and couldn't make the 12" climb to freedom. The amazing thing is that the only entry into this part of the drainage system is out at the street .. a couple of hundred feet away! This is one I haven't put a grate on yet ... if I had, we'd be drinking to the "late" Brew Bugsy.

I was over at a fellow homebrewer's house yesterday and met his new turtle for the first time. He already had a small one and recently found a person who was looking for a home for this huge beast. Chris named it, "Zeus."

My kids wanted to call my brewing operation Lil' Dog Brewing because of our dog, but I went with Surf City Brewing instead. Still, she makes a cute mascot.

Tommy is my right hand man at the Brewfooery. We are relaxing after a Sunday morning brewday with our mini parrot, Tiki. Tiki is a Green Cheek Conure or sometimes called a Pineapple Conure. These parrots are a good choice for their tameness and relative quietness compared to other conures.

Tiki is seen here helping me clean the lemongrass from our garden. It would later be used during a mead brewday at Daniel's house.

I just got home from Omar's Birds by Fran in Cypress. I bought Tiki from that place and they offer free
bird grooming for life if you buy their birds. A funny story about my grey is that he/she has consistently gotten the "vapors" the last couple of times I took it in for grooming. The staff told me some birds become so worked up that they go into a seizure.

My grey will actually look "drunk" and start to fall over on its side and pass out. I now have to do my own bird grooming at home for that one. Parrots are naturally mean and aggressive towards other members of the family. My grey senses who I care about in the family and stalks and attacks my son. Just some words of warning....They live a long time too.

If they made Xanax for birds I think it would be prescribed to greys 10:1 to all other birds. They are neurotic as can be. Next in line would be most cockatoos. Those things will turn feather picker just for relocating their cage.
