I can't believe I'm finally brewing again!

Post by Rezzin »

I'm really looking forward to tomorrow. I'm going surfing in the morning (waves should be really good too!) then I'm coming home and brewing. I've got everything positioned outside, the grain milled, mash and sparge water measured and separated, hops placed into marked bags, etc etc. I AM READY!

I'll be trying something different tomorrow. The Hopstopper I bought a while back clogs when only using pellet hops so this time I plan on using a 5g paint strainer bag and placing a SS scrubbie underneath the pickup tube in my kettle. If this works w/o clogging, the next time around I'll try it with the Hopstopper and bag. I'm not giving up on the Hopstopper! :)

Which reminds me - I need to buy some ice tomorrow on my way home.

Anyhow, just thought I'd share :)

WOOHOO!

Well, I'm in the middle of my mash right now and I realized I'm missing 2 things.

1. Ice
2. Propane

My sister-in-law's boyfriend conveniently forgot to mention he used my propane tank when he deep fried the turkey on Christmas. Fortunately, Lyn was around to save the day with a spare tank and a nice Flanders Red. Thanks Lyn!!!

I'm liking these sour beers!

Starting the boil soon...

:D :D :D :D

Well the brew day is over. About 5 hours almost from start to finish. A few things to mention.

* When using the hop bag, I had to use a few marbles to help keep the bag down.
* It was a PITA to get my IC in there with the bag.
* My efficiency was slightly higher today than it normally is. I normally get 71-73% but today I got 78% - not sure why.
* I forgot just how good those hydrometer samples taste! :D

All in all it was a great day and I'm looking forward to seeing how this thing turns out!
