The Buena Park farmer's market has 12 lbs of honey (Orange blossom, sage, and something I can't remember) for $40. Is that a good deal?
Where do the mead guys get their honey?
Has California's bee loss, inthe past couple years, raised prices?

No, that's pretty high for honey.

Re: Mead Prices
My last batch of honey was from Miller's Honey. I was buying 3# jugs for about $9 each, but they do have 1 gallon jugs for $24 or so.
I've also been looking at ebeehoney.com because they have *raw* unfiltered, unpasterized honey.
Between those two sites, they have lots of available honey types: Clover, Orange Blossom, Wildflower, Buckwheat, Goldenrod, Bamboo, Sage. I used some Wildflower Honey from Miller's in my Old Ale, and more recently a metheglin.

Re: Mead Prices
Before you buy any buckwheat honey you need to find out if it is Eastern or Western Buckwheat.
Eastern Buckwheat is like a wet barnyard in flavor and aroma and takes a very long time to come around. Western Buckwheat is dark but lacks the barnyardy character.
Cheers,
