New RIMS tube

Post by backyard brewer »

I'm about 90% done with the prototype but close enough for a few pictures. This is what it'll look like:

Image

The disassembled tube. My little camera bent the tube!

Image

The wort inlet is just sitting there and not welded in since the tube itself is only tacked up.

Shows the outlow cap including SS float switch to prevent your element from dry firing and the thermowell to monitor outflow temp.

Here's the outflow end of of it.

I think this post would be cooler if there were pictures. :)

UC Irvine is allowing the pics, and that tube looks like a lot of work to build.

It is a lot of work and a surprising amount of material as well. That's why it'll be around $160 with clamps, gaskets and fittings but no element.

Dang it Derrin. I've only done one batch since putting everything together and now you have me thinking about adding one of these to my setup. I currently have one unused BCS output/SSR just waiting for something to plug into it...

Stop coming up with this stuff!

Shows ok for me now. Facebook is blocked at work, so that's probably the problem.

Try explaining to non-brewing friends that the device your making is a "RIMS Tube" and you should see the wide eyes!

Here's the newest iteration of this. A lot closer to release. I went with a smaller diameter tube to increase the wort flow across the element and reduce the volume in the tube and also to reduce cost. The bigger one was going to have to be closer to $240+
