SafeSeal Bottle Opening technique
Couldn't find a 'Stupid Human Tricks' forum to post this in, but technically .. this is a technique.
For those 22oz bottles of barleywine, that you just can't drink in a complete sitting... I open my bottles with this technique.
Using a bottle opener, position and lift just barely enough to crack the seal... when it goes 'psshh' .. stop! Then rotate the opener 1/8 a turn around the bottle, and repeat. The cap comes off, and you can poor your pint. Then return the cap and press down. With a little practice, it should snap into place and seal... keeping a fair amount of carbonation for the next evening's pour.
Yeah, silly .. but heh ... its nice being able to return to a half-bottle of Old Guardian on Day 2 and get a 'psshh' when you pop the cap!

+1 We're brewers and we have the tools and technology... Just pop a new crown right on that sucker!jward wrote:You could just crimp a new crown too.

Derrin ... new idea for Brewer's Hardware ... replacement cap that can have CO2 applied ... kind of like the carbonator but for bottles.

When I've been drinking, the last thing I want to attempt is getting out the hand-capper and re-sealing a bottle! Sounds like a handful of glass waiting to happen!lexuschris wrote: Orders of magnitude in effort ..

I use a wine bottle stopper and it works especially well on the higher gravity, lower carbonation brews.
