Maybe get this to Dan and have him put it on the calendar. When something like this comes up, is there more we should do to inform the members about it? My concern is that unless someone specifically read this thread about "Two infusion CA Common", they would not know about us wanting to do a CA Common contest. Lastly, is this a paid members only competition or open to the forum members in general?

Good points. I will let Dan know. Also agree on "paid members" only

Done:

FYI The Club Pres and Vice Pres can also add / edit the calendar! I said for bragging rights and ??? (Will the club sponsor and swag for the winner?)

Let me know if you want any changes.

Thanks Dan
Good question on swag and sponsoring...This will not be an official judging, rather a fun day to compare CA Commons. I suggest we offer a $25 gift cert to AHP if everyone agrees

$25 may get you more participation ... but I think that all of the hard core folks are in one way or the other ...

Hell, if I can get my rig up and going I may even participate!

Jon did bring up a good point ... what will it take to bring more awareness to the calendar? The CompCalendar e-mail address gets a reminder from Google (along with a bunch of spam). I would bet that most folks "View new posts" ... that is the main way I look at posts ... so could we find a way to automatically generate a post from the calendar (even if it is just a link to the calendar) to one forum (it could be public) on a regular basis? That would create more visibility. I'll PM Brent and see what he thinks.

I agree in that hard cord folks are already in. This may let others know that paid membership does have benefits

I can't make June 23 as that is my youngest daughter's 16th birthday. Also, looking at my calendar, I wouldn't be able to brew this until at least May 19 and I don't think that is enough time to properly lager this style.

I'm in the same boat as Brad, I don't think I'll have enough time to brew and lager a CA Common by June 23 based on my upcoming brew schedule. Unless ... I wonder how a CA Common would work made with SD Super Yeast? :)

OK How many of you have started to brew California Common for our get together?
Mine is now in fridge dropping temp a little so I can pitch yeast

Some of you may remember my Chocolate Oatmeal Stout last December...good news is 5 cases are now conditioning so we can taste test on the 23rd
