I'm planning on entering my Nut Brown Hemp Ale in the O.C. Fair but I'm not sure which catergory it falls under.
It could be 10C American Brown Ale or 23 Specialty Beer.
Any suggestions?

+1. A few years back a member took a 1st, 2nd & a 3rd with the same beer in 3 catagories. Also falls under spiced beers too. 23 is a very hard category to compete because the beers are so disparate. The judge could have is tounge burned off with habeneros just before he tastes your entry and, well, he isn't going to taste your entry!maltbarley wrote:Enter it in both.

Re: What category is Nut Brown Hemp Ale?
I would like to enter it in both categories as long as it fits the Brown Ale requirements.
Is it possible they would disqualify a Hemp Ale in the Brown Ale category or,
would they just give it a lower score for not following the ingredient guidelines or,
is the Hemp seed an acceptable ingredient in a Brown Ale?

The judges won't even know that it has hemp seeds unless they know that flavor and can pick it out. They'll just know that it's a brown ale. The only information the judges get is an entry number and style. For some categories they will get the special ingredients information, you should leave that blank when you enter the brown ale category, but fill it out for specialty.
