So I ordered a couple of porter kits from B3 and because I don't have a mill I opted to have them mill and ship. That seemed easy enough until I was done with my mash and noticed my numbers were not where they should be. I sparged and then emptied my grains to notice that there were a bunch of unopened grains. So my porter will be on the weaker side and instead of 11 gallons into the fermenter, I'll have 10.
Shame on me for being in such a rush to brew and not look at the grain before I mashed.
It's not worth the time. I just need to be more aware in the future and buy my grain from Brian. I did this one to get a tested recipe and get some porter in the fermenter. After all, I don't want your vanilla porter to go unopposed.
Well my vanilla porter won't be entered at it is the wrong category. However, the Brown Porter welcomes all comers ... as long as the club gets an entry off.
