Re: National Homebrew Competition
Got my score sheets today. My Kolsch got a 42 and that was the high score in the category, which tells me that all the top 3 beers scored a 42 in that category. Peter Zien of AleSmith judged my Kolsch and loved it! My bock missed first place by 0.4 points. Harold Gulbransen (a very well respected judge and brewer) gave my Bock a 41!! I am very pleased with the feedback and thrilled that I made it through to the next round.
I have three more bottles of the Kolsch left, but I may re-brew it for finals so it will be fresh. What do you guys think? Part of me says just send what I have since I know it is already a great beer.
Kolsch - 42
Bock - 39.6
Dopplebock - 34
Am. Amber Ale - 31.5
Cal Common - 27.5

Rebrew it but save what you have just in case.BrewMasterBrad wrote:Got my score sheets today. I kinda agree with Derrin, but I'd sample the new batch and then decide which to send.

Plus, it won't be a bad thing to have more Kolsch to drink!maltbarley wrote:I kinda agree with Derrin, but I'd sample the new batch and then decide which to send.

Got my scoresheets today:
10-B American Amber Ale = 27.5
10-C American Brown Ale = 26.5
This is my first competition, so was not expecting much. However, I did like the feedback on the score sheets! Pretty clear ideas on where I can improve. Looking forward to the next one!

Brad, I would send in the ones that got you there. My Old Ale scored a 38.Not quite enough for the finals. l
Re: National Homebrew Competition
Chris - Getting the feedback is why I started entering comps. The ribbons and SCHWAG are cool, but I like the feedback as much. I've found there is a BIG difference between a GOOD beer and a GREAT - read that BOS - beer. I've had a couple come back with 38 or 39, but getting into the 40's is a real accomplishment. Congrats Brad!!!lexuschris wrote:Got my scoresheets today:

Re: National Homebrew Competition
Just got my score sheets from finals. My Bock got an honorable mention. Most comments said my Bock was too big to be a Traditional Bock and too light to be a Dopplebock. It was right in between gravity-wise.

Sounds like some good judges then. Congrats on the honorable mention!
