Great Meeting!
Eric, thank you for hosting this. I like the idea of a permanent "home" for the club meetings as it allows for better scheduling of any special demos, specific style presentations or one-offs as the club deigns appropriate.
I liked the format we used in this meeting. I like having the folks that made the beer talk about their brewing process and receiving instant feedback from the people in the club that are sampling their beer. I think it gives the brewer (novice or advanced) good, real-time, accurate feedback on the end product and how to improve/refine in the future. Being a process guy myself, I think it might help if we have some blank BJCP Judging Sheets at the next meeting for people to look at while they're giving feedback. Sometimes it helps to have a visual guide while you're giving feedback. It is also a good way to get people used to stepping through the Judging Sheets and would be good practice for judging a future club competition.
Cheers,
Oskaar

Sorry I missed it. Actually going through the scoresheets and pseudo-judging beers brought to the meetings are all great ideas. I also like the idea of using the store as a clubhouse as well.

I started a poll here about using AHP as a our meeting place. I would have split the topic but there were comments about the May meeting too.

Check out my mini-score sheet. It needs work, but I think a shorter/quicker one woudl work well for our meetings.Oskaar wrote:Great Meeting!

Very nice!
I'm actually thinking that the BJCP scoresheets would be for getting us all used to using the BJCP format for our club competition. I think that while people are used to seeing them on the receiving end as a competitor, most have not really used them as judges. The idea is that by getting more familiar with the BJCP Judging Sheets, there is a better degree of familiarity when it comes time to judge at our little competition. If people want to write on them that's fine, but I'm speaking specifically for verbal feedback at club meetings and brew days using the BJCP Judging Sheets.
I like your quick check sheets and maybe that's a good supplement for the verbal feedback. Kind of a combination of specific verbal feedback with some nice higher level comments on the overal product.
Cheers,
Pete

Another cool thing a the meeting was Pete's quick look-up of style guidelines. I need to remember to print a copy to have at each meeting.

For those with an iPhone there's a BJCP Style Guide application you can download to have them handy all the time.maltbarley wrote:Another cool thing a the meeting was Pete's quick look-up of style guidelines. I need to remember to print a copy to have at each meeting.

I just checked, there's also a free version of that app for G1 or Droid users. So useful! Thanks for the tip!

I dropped it ... with great malice & forethought... Odd how it bounced merrily as the display cracked into several pieces. It almost seemed as happy to be free of me....
