Re: Orange County Fair Homebrew Competition
By foam I just meant any StarSan/Saniclean residue. As much as it still feels completely wrong, I've never had any off flavors with having some left in fermenters/kegs/bottles. There's no need to chance it with a competition however. And come to think of it, I've never bottled mead on Saniclean, so I won't start now

Hey Scott,
All you need to do with the mead is keep it cool and don't spend undue time transferring from the big to the small bottles. I'd use a tube that extends all the way to the bottom of the bottles you're transferring into and do your best not to splash, bubble or otherwise introduce more oxygenation than is necessary.
Mead is very forgiving when it comes to oxidation, and much more forgiving by an order of magnitude than beer. That doesn't mean you can aerate the be-jesus out of it, but a little during transfer for that short period should not be an issue. It helps to chill it down before you make the transfer, and chill your bottles as well.
Hope that helps,
Oskaar

Re: Orange County Fair Homebrew Competition
Has anyone heard anything about results (i.e. has anyone been told they're a winner)?
I got my invitation and fair tickets for the homebrewer's day event, but haven't heard anything about the beer. I thought my blonde or cream ale had a shot this year, so I don't now if I just missed again, or if they haven't even started calling people.

Thanks Guys
I just brewed a new batch of Hemp Ale today and I plan on bringing a keg of it to the O.C.Fair Party.
See you there!
