i've been told that aluminum leeches into your wort. any creedence to this?

No. Aluminum is fine as long as you don't scrub it shiny. Aluminum forms an oxide that is incredibly hard and protects your wort from the metal as long as you don't scratch it when stirring etc.
Personally, I still prefer stainless though since there is still some risk that the oxide can be dissolved in an acid environment. I would only use it as a hlt, but thats me .

I will say not to use your aluminum kettles for your chili or curry stock pot, and then try using them for brewing again....
