Re: Using Gelatin to Clear Your Beer
Thanks for the tips!
Brad, on your bright tank, how much shorter is the dip tube?
And then you use CO2 to push the beer out that dip tube, and into the 'out' port on a normal corney?

Yep ... even in a lager like a Munich Helles or Vienna!BrewMasterBrad wrote:It always amazes me as to how much sediment there is left after a keg blows. Even after extensive time in primary, cold crashing, racking to a bright tank, adding gelatin, and then a few months in the keg until it is empty. There is still some sediment in there.

Mine are cut 1/2" shorter and beer pours very clear
PM me if you need a way to cut dip tubes

I didn't really measure, but I would guess about 3/4 to 1 inch or so. I used a tubing cutter.lexuschris wrote:Thanks for the tips!

I transfer from out port to out port using a jumper and pushing with CO2.

Re: Using Gelatin to Clear Your Beer
Last night at the club meeting at Out of the Park Pizza, a number of folks asked about the amazing clarity of my Sedona Hop Pale Ale (which was just brewed on 9/4/11). This is the thread, and Tim's post at the top is exactly what I do.
I do make sure to cold crash in the fermenter for a few days at 34F-35F, which should ensure any chill haze will happen, and help drop out yeast, etc. Then, after transferring into the keg, I follow the directions at the top of the thread.
After I force carb in the keg, I find that I only need to poor the 1st few ounces of beer out. After that, without any further keg moving, it poors crystal clear!
Many thanks to everyone who contributed to this thread! Just another example of how being in Brewcommune can help you make better beer!

Re: Using Gelatin to Clear Your Beer
Just in case you missed this thread, you should definitely remove line out posts & clear any gelatin particles from your tube & poppet valve. After finding that first little beer booger, I checked my other kegs that I had used gelatin in, and they all had some little bits of gelatin in the line out path.
Just a FYI if you use gelatin...

p.s. but still definitely worth it to clear your beer... the clarify is very cool!

Crossing my fingers that I did this right. I followed the directions to a T so hopefully my beer will be clear
Re: Using Gelatin to Clear Your Beer
Let me know how it goes, i am thinking about doing this tonight as well. I just picked up some gelatin from MoreBeer Riverside.

Re: Using Gelatin to Clear Your Beer
Not that happy with the results of my first round as I didn't see any change in clarity nor did I find any junk settled on the bottom.
I think tonight I'll hit up the other keg and use a full bag of the Knox gelatin unless anyone thinks over doing it is a bad idea?

Re: Using Gelatin to Clear Your Beer
More is not always better. I get tremendous results with using a 1/2 teaspoon per five gallons disolved in 1 cup of water per 1/2 teaspoon of gelatin. I boil the water first, let it cool down to about 180F, then mix in the gelatin to completely disolve it then let it sit for another 5 to 10 minutes. Open the keg that is at about 35F, pour in the gelatin mixture, seal the keg, purge a couple times with CO2, then shake that mother. Let it sit a few days at 35F, then I rack off into a serving keg and carbonate.StarRaptor wrote:Not that happy with the results of my first round as I didn't see any change in clarity nor did I find any junk settled on the bottom.
