Hello. Planning on making it to my first meeting tonight. I have 2 beers I'd love some feedback on. How does this work? Do ya'll bring taster glasses? Take hits off the bottle and backwash? Should I bring Red Solo Cups?

LOL, no backwash allowed! Just bring the bottles. Our host locations provide sample glasses for us. We generally have someone just stand up and give a couple seconds of what the beer is, what problems they thought they had, questions you're looking to get answered, etc. You then send the bottle(s) around the table and everyone pours a short sample and discusses.indianajns wrote:Hello. BrewCommune Meeting Notes
Meeting notes from January 20, 2015 at Out of the Park Pizza in Anaheim Hills.
23 in attendance
Discussed
Jon started by thanking the old board and it's members for their service in 2014. The new board for 2015 was introduced.
President: Jon W (JonW)
Vice President: Tony B (Maltose Parrot)
Secretary: Tim R (Blackcomb)
Treasurer: Sam B (SamIAm)
Style Coordinator: Chris L (LexusChris)
The club now has an official 501 c7 status as a non profit. This does a great many things for the club but there are some changes as well. One being that now only club members may be at meetings, though they may sponsor someone new who may want to come to one.
We also how have insurance through the AHA. This will help us ensure we are covered at any event.
Jon took a moment to talk about all the successes of the club in 2014 including but not limited to
•Beach City brew day. Getting a chance to talk to the owner of a new brewery and what they went through to get started
•Barrel Project
•Doing Google Hangouts for taste tasting with Brent
•Christmas Party at Chris's house
We then talked about what we are looking forward to in 2015
•SCHF 2015 (Be sure to buy your tickets ASAP!). We had 24 taps in 2013 and would like to have similar this year. The year's beer contest will be for stouts, and the club would love feedback on a theme
•New meetings places
•Doing maybe 2 barrel projects at the same time to ensure a good rotation (if possible)
There was also a good talk about the guys who use RO water. Brad and Sam both took turns talking their process. Both talked about how water is overlooked as a key ingredient and to look at your style of beer and tailor the water to brew that beer.
Style Presentation
Tim R started our style presentation which was Stouts (Category 15B). There were five examples of this style were:
•Dry Stout - Murphys
•Irish Extra Stout - Guinness
•English Stout - Peter's Cream Stout
•Oatmeal Stout - Anderson Valley
•Foreign Extra Stout - Brand Brewing Batch 100
Homebrews Shared
Here is what was logged as being passed around. If you were missed please let me know so I can update this list. If you pass a beer around please ensure I know about it!
•Munich Helles - Sam
•Stout - Curtis
•Russian Impersial Stout - Greg
•Helles Lager - Tim R
•Festbeir - Brad N
•Cider - Curtis
•Pale Ale - Tony
•Rye IPA - Trinity Aleworks (Sam, Brian)
•Arrogant Bastard Clone Tim's old boss
