Upgrading to hold grain setup

Post by LOUSCHER »

I'm in the process of building a new brew stand and to brew with. I would like some opinions on the equipment on choosing. I plan on using a gas burner 2 heat up quickly than switch to A REM heater to maintain temperature. I plan on using try clamps on everything.
I have already built a stand have designed it to hold up to 55 gallon stainless barrels but I am starting with 25 gallon kettle will be a whole grain setup. Here's my equipment list.

Here's the heating element I was looking at. http://www.ebrewsupply.com/stainless-el ... aight.html

This is the RIMS Tube I plan on using. http://www.brewershardware.com/Tri-Clov ... IMS20.html

Plan on using this fixture to hold element.http://www.brewershardware.com/2-Tri-Cl ... apter.html

This is the main gas burner I was planning on using. http://bayouclassicdepot.com/619ang-32- ... burner.htm

Haven't decided on what other gas burners I should use?

Plan on getting 25 gallon kettle. These are the two sources and I have right now.

Does anyone have any recommendations on Chugger Pump this is the one I was looking at.

I will have three vessels a brew kettle hot liquor tank and A mash tank. Plan on starting with one pump.
There will be a thermal couple in the rain heater.

The mashed ton will have thre etry clamps one four A Soros stat one of the bottom and one of the top

The stand is flat 6 foot long 2 foot wide room for gas burners under each pot. The other burners I thought to put smaller burners in I didn't think I would need the same amount of horsepower for heating

Howdy and welcome to BrewCommune. A little more info would help. Can you describe what your system design is ... e.g. 3 vessels HLT, MT, BP, single tier, 3 pumps, 2 burners, any automation , temp sensors, controls, etc. I see RIMS mentioned and at least 1 burner. But some additional information about your end product would be useful in evaluating your choices.

If you're local to Huntington Beach I'd recommend you stop by and talk to the guys at Brewers Hardware. They also have kettles and pumps and cater to the DIY brewer. Plus they can fab almost anything you'd possibly want onto a kettle if you need special or extra ferrules installed.

Sounds like a good project ... keep us posted.

I agree with everything Dan had said and would add that you want to get out and see as many systems in action as possible.

A good way to do this is join the club to get access to official club brew days (6 a year) and the informal invitations when many of us are brewing.

Our next meeting is this coming Tuesday in Buena Park. Come out and introduce yourself!
