Brewcommune X OC Mashups Club Competition
Hey Guys!
I wanted to officially announce the inter-club BJCP competition between Brewcommune and the OC Mashups!
This will be an annual competition between our two clubs with some big bragging rights to go along with it.
Here are "The Rules of the Cup" passed out at the May club meeting.
1. This will be an Annual competition that will cycle through different quarters. This year will be Q4.
2. The Style of the competition will be decided by the losing club for the next year. Since this year we're in the end of the year, Aaron and I decided on a big beer competition. Next year will be decided by the losing club.
3. Time of comp moved forward or backward to next quarter each year to accommodate seasonal styles.
4. Victor chosen by total score of top five, in the advent of a tie the winner is high scorer.
Due to differences in member counts, instead of counting medals we will be choosing the winner by adding the top 5 scores from either club. High score wins.
5. Victors hold "The Cup Brewtus Mashimus The Victor". The OC Mashups designed a fantastic (and ugly) trophy to be held by the victor for the year.
6. We will have a ceremony to announce the winners and pass the cup to the winner.
7. "The Ceremony" to be held at a brewery chosen by the defeated.
8. Time and day of The Ceremony chosen by the defeated.
9. Competition to be BJCP sanctioned.
10. Competition to be held at a brewery chosen by the Presidents of Brewcommune and The OC Mashups. This year will be held at Barley Forge
11. The Cup to be present at each of the Victors meetings.
12. President of the victorious club is responsible for The Cup.
13. No other club shall be invited into the competition unless mutually agreed.
Here are the Rules for this years competition
Open only to paid members of Brewcommune or Paid members of OC mashups.
Entries limited to 2 beers per brewer. Members in both clubs can only enter a beer in one club. No duplicated between clubs.
This years competition will be a "Big Beer" competition with all entries being over 8%.
This includes all BJCP categories where over 8% ABV is acceptable, including mead and cider.
Quick Date Guide
October 17th: Entries must be entered in the Online Form
November 5th to November 16th: Entries to be dropped off at Barley Forge, Windsor Homebrew Supply, or Brewers Hardware.
Nov 17th: Judging will take place.
First week of December: Winner will be announced!
For full rules see the OC mashups entry page.

Re: Brewcommune X OC Mashups Club Competition
Post any discussion or questions for the club competition here.
This is a paid member only competition, but I wanted to post it in the unpaid section in case any unpaid members on the fence would like to join and enter this competition.
This being our first inter-club challenge, I'm hoping to get a ton of representation from the club! Let's show them what Brewcommune can do and win that trophy!
I'm planning on brewing a RIS and maybe a mead.

This is a great idea. But, I seriously doubt like I will be able to participate as a brewer. I will be happy to judge though.

C'mon Brad, it will be the only beer you can keep on tap for more than a week. That said, you should enter the wheat wine.BrewMasterBrad wrote:This is a great idea. But, I seriously doubt like I will be able to participate as a brewer. I will be happy to judge though.

Looking forward to this! My American Barleywine came out really nice on the brandy barrel oak chips... will bring it to the next meeting for some feedback on oak & carb levels.

How about this... Who's down for a collaboration?
I know a lot of us brew 10 gallon batches, and a lot of times for me brewing 10 gallons of >8% ABV beer is somewhat silly as it'll sit in my kegerator for a year... I actually don't brew DIPAs for that reason-I can't drink them fast enough before the hops fade.
But I'd be up for doing a collab with someone. Each brew 10 gallons for this competition, and we swap each other a 5 gallon keg from each batch. "Brewer" is the person whose system was used, but list the other as co-brewer on the comp so either way we both get credit.

Is there a competition committee for this? I am interested in helping to set up things.

Brad, went to the oc mashups meeting yesterday, they said they need judges for November 17th. Said there are 56 beers, 33 from our club and 23 from their's. I have volunteered to steward.
Should be an interesting day.

I volunteered as a judge. Since this is a high alcohol beer competition, I am regretting this already. In my opinion, we need about 5-8 judges.

We're shooting for 16 judges but I think we have 10-12 lined up already.ctninh wrote:I volunteered as a judge. Since this is a high alcohol beer competition, I am regretting this already. In my opinion, we need about 5-8 judges.
