Hi y'all -
Brewing in a simple BIAB-in-an-Igloo-cooler Saturday. Trying to do a step mash, by adding water to the mash at predetermined temperatures to bring up to the next temperature step. Right now I'm showing an initial protein rest at a water-to-grain ratio of about 0.8. Too thick? Am I making weird gruel and not beer?

I would go much thinner, then draw half off, heat and return.

Hey Jon - welp, you were right, but I was able to get a step mash going with some adjustments. Belgian Tripel in the new year!
