IEB Competition June 22
Is anyone entering this competition? I'll probably be entering my Munich Helles and Cali Common. 2 bottles and $5 per entry.

I saw a werewolf drinking a pina colada down at Trader Vic's

I hope life isn’t a big joke, because I don’t get it.

I almost didn't enter this year. But my wife convinced me to bottle a sixer for the IEB and OC fair last night. It sucks to get out all the cpf stuff for only a six pack, but it is done.BrewMasterBrad wrote:It doesn't look like I will be entering anything this year. I have an American Stout ready, but I don't feel like bottling it. I am planning on judging though.
Shut up and brew
Well,
Brad N., Brent, Hal (hjw) and I judged today.
I did Cat 7 in the am and cat 10 in the pm.
Brad was actually my student today and he did really well and on his second beer he gave it a 40! I gave it a 46 and for intents and purposes I believe it was Rezzin's! The other 13 cali commons we had all scored below 25 and I had to score one a 9 as it was so terrible and infected I could not let any in my mouth to taste it, and none of the others had any hop aroma let alone malt so unless someone switched #'s around, Mike's should place 1st.
The American Ambers I judged had some really great examples and I gave 2 of them 37's and one a 45.
Brent and Hal said in their categories they had no "stellar" examples so next year we need to enter a lot as well as help judge/steward it.
It was only 105 or something incredibly hot out there (but it's a dry heat) and the a/c in the room we judge in was not working so it got up over 85 inside.

The temperature was a little better today, maybe because we were on the other side of the restaurant. I don't know if it was Mike's, but I judged the Mini-BOS round with the winning cali common and it didn't make it into the BOS round. It was up against a really good english mild and a very good dortmunder export and german pils. The CC was probably my 2nd or 3rd favorite in the round, the other judges agreed it was very good but they really liked the dort. Eventually the mild and dortmunder moved on. It's tough choosing between such great beers. I usually don't like english beers, but that mild was really excellent and was everyone's favorite in the round.
I think I might have placed somewhere with my Saison, I know it scored a 39.5.
