2008 Pacific Cup Recap and list of winners

Post by spkrtoy »

Here's my final comments as well as the winners in every category up to 18 with Dan's in Bold.

Congrats to Dan! What an awesome, strong dark belgian! When you get your scoresheet you'll see that I said I'd drink a "growler or 2 and please send me the recipe" in the comment section.
As an aside, I'll let everyone know in person the facts stated in the following:

We had 19 beers so a 4-judge split panel was employed due to the strength of the beers. I was paired with an apprentice judge and we did the 9 beers entered in: 18 A,B,& E, and the other side of the table did the other 9 in:C & D.
We did have to do a mini-bos because of the split panel, to find the category winners, but our side was told that we could "sit in" but we'd have no "input", on the final decision on the placement of the beers. {edited by author}

Even so, the experience of having that wonderful, complex belgian strong was the best thing that happened yesterday. The fact that it took the category was never in doubt on my mind, but to be fair, I did NOT know that Dan entered a beer in the comp. and the other 2 judges (1 master and 1 national) made the call. I'm sorry I only scored it a 40, and am glad it was 2nd runner up in BOS!
We can't win them all, but we're doing darn good!

Keep up the great brewing!

Sorry Brad N. for not getting a place for your dunkel or Cali., both were good, but maybe next comp! Thanks for the transportation and the stop off at The Bruery on the way home.

The Kolsch and Am. brown were both battling for 1st.I actually gave my 1st place vote to the Am. brown. I also saw they put me belonging to the Long Beach Homebrewers Club even though I don't belong to them. Odd how they got that.

Thanks Lyn. Glad you had a good time judging AND that my beer impressed you. I think that one will get a little better with some additional aging. I'm really sorry now that my Kolsch disappeared before I could enter it!!:cry: I might've given the BOS winner a real run for his money with that one. :shock:

Thanks Mike.

It should be listed on the website, if not then keep an eye toward the next Zymurgy.

Cheers,
